A “$50 towing near me” result on your phone does not mean the bill will be $50. On the 101 in Studio City, the 405 in Westwood, or a side street in Boyle Heights, that number is usually a hook. Cheap towing near me in Los Angeles is a complete quote for a defined job: pickup, drop-off, truck type, and every extra line named before the truck rolls.
Why a $50 tow quote in LA is usually incomplete
Search ads and map pins still show $50 towing near me across Los Angeles County. The search is real. As a finished price for an actual tow, that figure is almost always incomplete.
Quick Tow LA does not post a $50 special. We do not honor a bait rate of our own. We connect LA County drivers with local, licensed operators, and those operators quote their own work. Until an operator with a signed rate card is on file, this site publishes no brand price. That is the honest starting point.
What the ads leave out is the job itself. A stalled Civic two blocks from a shop in Mid-Wilshire is one kind of call. A disabled SUV in the Cahuenga Pass at night is another. So is a car that has to come out of a tight garage in Koreatown, or a breakdown on the 14 in Santa Clarita with a drop in Burbank. Distance, truck type, time on scene, and where the car is sitting all change the total. A line that says $50 never names those things.
People type inexpensive towing near me and affordable towing near me when they are already stressed. They want a floor. California does not publish a single countywide minimum for a private roadside tow. The City of Los Angeles does publish Official Police Garage rates for police and agency tows, as of January 1, 2026. Those figures belong to that official program. Mixing them with a private bargain search is how a cheap pin turns into an impound bill.
If you want the full picture of how private jobs are usually built, read our Los Angeles tow cost breakdown. This page answers the bait-ad query. That one walks the cost stack. Neither page invents a hook-up rate for a network operator.
A complete quote names the pickup, the drop-off, and the truck. It names extras before anyone hooks the car. If a caller will not do that, you have an incomplete number.
Hook-up, mileage, after-hours, and storage are separate lines
Towing bills in LA are line items. The hook-up starts the job. Mileage is the trip. Time on scene can run in hours or half hours on some regulated work. Storage is a different meter, and it starts once the car is in a yard.
For City of Los Angeles Official Police Garage work, the Board of Police Commissioners sets rates that reset every January 1. As of January 1, 2026, a standard vehicle tow is $220.00 for the first hour on a credit card, or $215.00 by cash or check. Each additional half hour is $109.00 or $106.00. Mileage is $12.00 per mile. Daily storage for a standard vehicle is $68.00 or $66.00. An EV surcharge is $77.00 or $75.00. A vehicle release fee of $115.00 applies when you redeem an impounded vehicle. Those are police-garage rates. They are not a private $50 towing near me menu.
There is no City-set after-hours gate fee on the LA OPG schedule. Do not let anyone invent one as a City line. OPG business hours are 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and release is in person. Private operators can still quote their own after-hours line. Ask for it in the total. We could not confirm a private after-hours dollar figure to publish here, because this brand has no signed operator rate card.
Storage is where a cheap search goes quiet. A short private tow to a shop in Atwater Village or a driveway in Northridge may never see a yard. A police tow, a private-lot tow, or a car left overnight will. Long Beach runs its own city lot at 3111 E. Willow Street, with its own schedule effective October 1, 2025. Burbank and Pasadena run their own release rules. City of LA OPG rates stop at the city line.
Mileage also bites in this county. A drop in the Antelope Valley, Malibu, or Santa Clarita is a long pull from a South Bay pickup. A quote that hides per-mile charges is towing near me cheap in name only.
If the car only needs a jump, a spare, or fuel, a full tow may be the wrong product. Compare that path on our roadside assistance in Los Angeles guide before you pay for a hook you did not need.
How to compare a real quote without guessing rates
You compare totals, not slogans. Call every operator with the same facts: where the car sits, where it has to go, make and model, two-wheel or all-wheel drive, gas or EV, and whether it is on a street, a freeway shoulder, a garage, or a lot.
Ask them to say the full number, then get it in a text or email. The total should name hook-up, mileage, after-hours, winch, dollies, storage, and any card surcharge. Get that figure before the truck rolls. A number after the hook is a bill.
Quick Tow LA does not publish those private line items, and we do not guess them. The emergency towing dispatch line connects you with a local, licensed operator who quotes the job you actually have.
There is no confirmed statewide minimum dollar amount for a private roadside tow that we can print as fact. City of LA OPG first-hour rates, listed above, are the published figures for that official program only. For a private call, the real floor is whatever the operator will put in writing for your pickup and drop-off. If a site will not confirm a figure, treat it as unconfirmed and ask the pro.
Stay out of traffic while you shop. NHTSA roadside safety guidance is simple: get the car as far from moving lanes as you can, use hazards, and wait in a safe spot. On a CHP-served freeway, the California Highway Patrol rotation program is a different system. CHP does not publish one uniform statewide tow rate. Operators submit rates under a Tow Service Agreement. A cheap map pin is not that program.
Truck type belongs on the same call. A lowered car, an AWD crossover, or an EV is often a bed job. Wheel-lift fits some standard cars. The cheap quote that sends the wrong truck can mean a second dispatch, or damage. Ask which truck is coming.
Membership roadside plans cover miles for members. They sit beside this search. They still need the same questions: destination, extra miles, and what is excluded.
What fee rules cover, and what they do not
California has rules. They do not set a cheap private-tow menu for the whole county.
California Vehicle Code 22658 governs private-property tows. A posted sign is required at each entrance, 17 inches by 22 inches, with lettering at least one inch high. The sign must name the enforcement agency phone and each tow company’s name and contact. The authorizing party must notify local law enforcement within one hour of authorizing the tow. A charge is excessive if it exceeds the greater of the local contract rate or the operator’s CHP-approved rate. If you return before the vehicle is in transit, you may demand immediate release for no more than half the posted tow charge.
That statute is about private lots. It does not set a $50 cap on a roadside call you placed yourself. It does not set a price for Quick Tow LA. For the wider map of what is actually regulated, see towing fees and California’s minimum-cost rules.
City of LA OPG rates cover official police-garage tows in the City of Los Angeles. They do not cover a private call in Van Nuys, a lot in Long Beach, or a Sheriff station tow in unincorporated county. Long Beach, Burbank, and Pasadena publish their own figures. As of August 1, 2025, Burbank’s contractor lists a standard tow at $308.00 per hour and daily storage at $88.00 for a standard vehicle. Pasadena’s Parking Office lists an impounded-vehicle release of $159.00. Glendale’s impound release dollar amount could not be confirmed from a primary source, so this page does not print one. Confirm with the city that actually has the car.
The 80% rule people ask about is a towing-capacity rule for vehicles that pull trailers. Stay at or under about 80 percent of the rated capacity so brakes, hitch, and cooling have a margin. It does not cap what a tow truck charges in Los Angeles.
Licensing talk belongs on the operator. Quick Tow LA is a referral service. We hold no Motor Carrier Permit of our own. The pros we connect you with are licensed and insured. Ask for the company name on the truck before anything is hooked.
When cheap is a private-lot or police tow in disguise
Some cheap towing near me searches are not roadside calls at all. The car is already gone.
If LAPD or LADOT had it moved, it is likely at one of 17 Official Police Garages. Search the OPGLA VIIC public database at opglaviic.com by plate or VIN. LADOT also points people to 311. Release paperwork starts with the impounding LAPD Area station, then you pay the OPG. You need a valid driver’s license or U.S. government photo ID, current registration or proof of ownership, and standing as owner or agent. All OPG tow and storage charges must be paid before release.
As of January 1, 2026, that stack includes the $220.00 first hour on a credit card, $12.00 per mile, daily storage, and the $115.00 release fee, plus whatever hours and days already ran. That is an impound.
A boot is a warning with a clock. In the City of LA, five or more delinquent parking citations can lead to a boot. The boot fee is $150.00. After booting you typically have 72 hours before a tow. The 72-hour street rule is separate: a car may not stand on a City street or alley for 72 or more consecutive hours.
Private-lot tows follow CVC 22658. Apartment lots in North Hollywood, shopping centers in the South Bay, and hospital garages downtown all run this way. Half-charge release applies if you arrive before the car is in transit. Once it is gone, you are in a yard with storage on the clock.
Long Beach uses findmytowedcar.org and the city lot on E. Willow Street. Light-duty tow there is $255.00 per hour, minimum, as of October 1, 2025, with daily storage of $83.00 for a standard vehicle and a $61.00 vehicle release. Burbank requires an impound release from Burbank PD first. Pasadena release is in person at the Parking Office. Apply each city’s published numbers to that city’s yard.
A flatbed is the safer tool for many cars, including AWD and EVs. Wheel-lift can scrape a lowered bumper or load the wrong wheels. Towing can damage a car when the wrong method is used, when the parking brake is left on, or when an AWD vehicle is pulled on two wheels. There is no verified dollar figure here for typical repair cost. Ask which method is coming, and say if the car is AWD, low, or electric.
